With the growing demand to provide drug abuse services, Northwell Health looked into repurposing the underutilized space at the Littauer Building on the Zucker Hillside Campus. The existing space, in the basement level, was previously occupied by a psychiatric library and building maintenance space. The spaces presented many difficulties, being split with differing elevations as well as inherent problems from a space being unrenovated for nearly 30yrs. Mascioni & Behrmann was tasked with creating a cohesive inviting space, so Northwell could better serve the communities need for and outpatient services to whose lives have been impacted by substance abuse disorders. Additionally the project incorporated a renovated ADA entrance and required NYS Department of Health Article 28 compliance.
